Our HISTORY
Leadership Jacksonville was formed in 1976 as a vehicle to stimulate the growth of leadership in our community.
Under the guidance of the late Frederick H. Schultz, the organization’s first President, Leadership Jacksonville was formed with the interest and financial support of the Junior League of Jacksonville, JAX Chamber and the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. (JCCI)
Milestones:
- 1977: First graduating class of the Leadership Jacksonville flagship program with 29 class members
- 1991: Youth Leadership Jacksonville graduated its first class with 40 high school juniors from 31 schools
- 2003: First New Leadership Summit was held
- 2005: Next Generation graduated its first class
- 2012: The Jacksonville Legacy Series first aired with Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne
More than 5,155 participants have graduated from one of Leadership Jacksonville’s four programs since our first class in 1977.
Leadership Jacksonville alumni have served in the leadership of virtually every nonprofit and civic organization and in many elected positions in northeast Florida. Participants have graduated from these programs with a commitment to become responsible, ethical community leaders.
Our community is stronger because of the positive impact of Leadership Jacksonville alumni.
The success of Leadership Jacksonville is measured by the success of these graduates as they move into the community with an increased awareness of our community’s issues and collaborate with the Leadership Jacksonville network and take action for the greater good. Leadership Jacksonville believes that this population is the future of our community.
Leadership Jacksonville celebrates the outstanding contributions that its alumni make and encourages alumni to stay involved through volunteering for our programs and with financial support.
